hi, great script i use it and works excellent. Now im implementing it on a mysql server that handles a very big table, more than 4Gb of records but they are changing every day so i`m not interested in backing up but the rest i need to. Is there a way to exclude one table of been dumped? thanks eduardo. |

Anyone who has downloaded VER 2.5 this morning please download it again.. I forgot to remove an "echo" statement that I was using during testing.. Sorry about that.. |

Hi all, I have had a suggestion from one of the long time users of the AutoMySQLbackup script to separate the config portion of the script and the logic portion of the script into separate files.. So for example there would be a /etc/automysqlbackup.conf config file and a /bin/automysqlbackup executable file.. The next thing is having a Makefile that will install the files to prescribed locations.. This would allow the AutoMySQLbackup "system" to be packaged.. I would be interested to hear the thoughts on this from those of you who use the script.. How would this change affect the way you use the script? Where would the best file system locations be for the files? (eg. /etc/automysqlbackup.conf or /etc/automysqlbackup/config ) Is this something you would like to see and prefer to the way it is currently? Anything else? |

I guess that as long as the required utilities can be executed and the directories accessed for the CGI execution it should work but your ISP may not allow it to call external utilities or write to the backup directory.. Sorry I can't be more helpful.. |

My hosting service says that all cron jobs have to be cgi scripts. Can I just put my automysqlbackup in the cgi-bin folder or do I have to put it there and change the suffix from .sh to .cgi. I am a new subscriber to the list and Sourcforge is down right now so I cannot search the archives for this topic. My apologies if this has been discussed before. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Version: 7.1.371 / Virus Database: 267.14.15/223 - Release Date: 1/6/2006 |

While the emailed log files are great, I would love to see a "quiet" setting for the email. In this case it would only email if there was an error. Otherwise there would be no output at all (so as to not trigger an email from cron when the program is called). I currently comment out a line or two so that no email at all is sent. thanks for putting together and sharing your script, Sam |

Hi, I haven't actually bumped into that limit, the largest single database I have used the script on was about 300MB.. My suggestion would be to look at the system variables and see if there are any timeouts or maximums that are limiting you.. Alternatively you may get some guidance from someone of one of the MySQL forums.. Sorry I can't be of more help.. For your second question.. The reason for the 5 week rotation is simply because there can be a maximum of 5 weeks in a month so it is simply to maintain a GFS backup structure.. I guess it could be user configurable but trying to do it per database would be quite difficult and would make the script a lot more complicated.. There is a patch that has been submitted for monthly rotation on the sourceforge.net AutoMySQLBackup project page for monthly rotation but I haven't had a chance to go through it yet.. Alternatively what you could do is setup a cron job to run to delete the backups you don't want on a weekly or monthly basis using the "find" command, for example you could delete files older than x days.. Any chance of being able to specify that all DBs get backed up? Every time I create a database, I have to remember to add it to the config (and sometimes I forget for a couple of days). I'd like to be able to say "backup all dbs" Dan |

Hey still happily using your script and this email reminded me of some questions I've had. Hope you don't mind answering them. 1) There seems to be a limit of 900MB in backup space. Where is that limit set? 2) Is there a way to control the number of weekly and monthly backups kept? Idealy, I'd like to set this per database. Thanks for the script. Hi, For anyone interested version 2.3 is now available.. New features are.. 1) Detecting errors and notifying admin depending on selected notification options.. 2) Option to compress MySQL traffic between backup server and MySQL server.. Let me know if there are any problems with it that slipped through my testing.. |

Thanks for the useful script. There is a bug in automysqlbackup v2.0 where daily backups aren't rotated if you do not use gzip for compression. Compare the rotation call in weekly vs. that in daily. Daily doesn't look for a wildcard extension, but .gz instead eval rm -fv "$BACKUPDIR/weekly/$DB/week.$REMW.*" eval rm -fv "$BACKUPDIR/daily/$DB/*.$DOW.sql.gz" I believe the daily rotation eval statement ( line 453 for me ) should read eval rm -fv "$BACKUPDIR/daily/$DB/*.$DOW.sql.*" |
