AutoDeFrag was started from scheduler. It still runs after a day. I never see any
window poped up. Look like it hung.
I am running W2k server. The exe (size 48K) was downloaded last week.
Please help. I also downloaded sources. I can run debug if you want me to.
Thank you very much.

Try to run from the command-line, without the use of the
scheduler. The window that appears should give some
indication as to what is happening.
Note that the built-in defragger is not exactly the most
stable piece of software in Win2k... on some machines it
just won't run.

I too had a problem running autodefrag on certain
machines. It appeared to just hang when run under the
SYSTEM account. I tracked the problem down to
the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\OLE" registry
key. This machine in particular had an extra registry
value called "DefaultAccessPermission" which prevented the
SYSTEM account from firing off the defrag engine
(DFRGNTFS.EXE). If you run the utility DCOMCNFG.EXE, you
can either change the default permissions to include the
SYSTEM account, or specify permissions for just the defrag
engine.
