For those interested here is a spec file which may be used to build AuthPG rpms. I've also included the requisite conf file for Apache 2 builds. The patches required to build AuthPG on RHL are available in the patches section of the AuthPG project. A standard build would consist of putting the AuthPG (1.4) source code, patches, and authpg.conf in the SOURCES directory, the spec file in your SPECS directory and executing rpmbuild -ba AuthPG.spec. (I assume you know where all those things are) By default it will build for Apache 1.3.x, to build for Apache 2 do the following: rpmbuild -ba --define 'apache2 1' AuthPG.spec It also defaults to using the MD5 password hash/hash type patch, which I probably should have turned off by default but it's easy enough to build without it: rpmbuild -ba --define 'withmd5 0' AuthPG.spec or rpmbuild -ba --define 'apache2 1' --define 'withmd5 0' AuthPG.spec The apache2 stuff is technically not "production" yet, but I'm hoping this will make it easier for people to test. Let me know if you have any problems with it, or make any significant changes ;) Enjoy! Matt -- Matthew Rich <Mat...@pl...> Sony Computer Entertainment America |

AuthPG-1.4 is released. AuthPGGroupQuery is added to support user-defined queries for group-based access control. See below for details. This is the last release supporting Apache-1.3.x. The next release (2.0) will support Apache 2.x only. Changes: - Added AuthPGGroupQuery. - AuthPGGroupQuery doesn't require AuthPGGroupTable. - Database access errors in verifying group permission leave log messages. - AuthPGQuery works with AuthPGVirtual. - Fixed a bug in AuthPGCookie. Already some time ago (april 2002) I have entered a patch in the SF database, but no one has reacted on it, so here I add as an attachment. Please note that I am not an Apache code expert, I just made this looking at the conversion example in the Apache2 docuemtntation, so I can provide very little support. Hi there, I want to authenticate users to my web page to provide them with the content of a pg database. The content should be also restricted to specific users. The logon works fine but how can I realize the filtering of specific users? I found the AuthPGCookie directive and I think this will do the job but I don't know how to use this functionality. Could somebody give me an example, please? Regards, Andreas |

If so, that's the problem -- authpg looks for a crypt'ed password (you can crypt it in perl against itself.) The directive is AuthPGencrypted. Store the crypt'd version of the password in your db or turn off that function with the directive. -John |

Happy new year to everybody! I want to set up a web server, which is connected to a database. The content of the db should only be available for authorized users. My configuration is: Suse Linux 7.2 Apache 1.3.20 mod_auth_pg 1.3 PostgreSQL 7.1.3 I created the .htaccess file and made the corresponding adjustments in the httpd.conf: Content of .htaccess: AuthName "Customer Support Database" AuthType Basic AuthPGHost localhost AuthPGPort 5432 AuthPGUser postgres AuthPGPassword postgres AuthPGDatabase customers AuthPGUserTable user_authentication AuthPGUserNameField auth_user AuthPGPasswordField auth_pwd AuthPGQuery "select auth_pwd from user_authentication where auth_user = '%s';" <LIMIT GET POST> require valid-user </LIMIT> Entry in httpd.conf: <Directory /path_to_mydir> AllowOverride AuthConfig </Directory> Everything works well without these modifications. But if I place the .htaccess file into the directory of my web project I can find following entry in Apaches error_log: [Sat Dec 29 19:44:55 2001] [error] (2)No such file or directory: access to /test/index.html filed for MY_IP, reason: user andreas: password mismatch I can see the login window but I can't authenticate with the user information stored in my database. If I send the following sql query manually (psql) to PostgreSQL it responds with the correct pwd: select auth_pwd from user_authentication where auth_user='andreas'; (should be the same query like the one from mod_auth_pg) It would be great if somebody could point me in the right direction. Thank you in advance. Andreas -- GMX - Die Kommunikationsplattform im Internet. http://www.gmx.net |

Has anyone figured out how to do case-insensitive passwords? My users are less computer-literate than your average computer users and they're having a hard time getting their account info entered correctly. I'm trying to make this as easy for them as possible and it would be great if I could get at the password they enter and force it to lower case... Is this possible? culley |

Okay, I see that it is using a char salt of the password itself. E.G. the password is salted against itself. -John |

How can AuthPG know the salt that is used with crypt when storing Encrypted (default option) passwords in Postgres? Is there supposed to be a column for the salt? I wrote a small perl/DBI script to insert and modify username records. How can we predict what the salt should be? Does anybody have any ideas? I studied the code, but I am not very familiar with the Apache callback structure. -John |

Hi...here's my problem. I have enabled AuthPGVirtual, and it works fine when I don't use AuthPGQuery. But I want some more control via a custom query, and this doesn't appear to work when I set a custom AuthPGQuery. Here's my pgsql table: uid | dte | username | passwd | domain | dir -----+------------------------+----------+---------------+----------------+------------- 1 | 2001-10-13 18:29:23-04 | xxxx | xxxxxxxxxxxxx | rdb/dbmp | /dbmp My .htaccess: AuthName "Some Realm" AuthType Basic AuthPGVirtual on AuthPGUser user AuthPGPassword passwd AuthPGHost localhost AuthPGDatabase httpauth AuthPGUserTable users AuthPGPasswordField passwd AuthPGUserNameField username AuthPGDomainField domain AuthPGEncrypted on AuthPGQuery "select passwd from users where username='%s' and dir like '/dbmp';" <Limit GET> require valid-user </Limit> I've tried this query with dir='/dbmp' as well. It doesn't appear the username %s gets split into its user @ domain elements to be checked against the entries in AuthPGUserNameField and AuthPGDomainField. Apache reports: [Sat Oct 13 19:00:46 2001] [error] access to /dbmp/index.php3 failed for somehost.com, reason: user xxxx@rdb/dbmp not found This setup works fine when AuthPGQuery is not used, problem is anyone with a valid login can successfully connect to any resource configured to use AuthPGVirtual. What I'm trying to do is further limit users access by having the query ALSO check to make sure their permitted to access the resource by querying against the dir field in the table. Any ideas what I may be doing wrong, or is there a limitation in AuthPGVirtual that disallows the use of AuthPGQuery? |
