Following the advice of #625934 (Making aureal driver
work in Redhat 8.0) I encountered no difficulty with
the Redhat 8.0 kernel 2.4.18-14 (distributed on ISO
images). This with the forced loading with insmod -f.
However when I upgraded the kernel per recent
announcments from Red Hat (2.4.18-19.8.0) I've
encountered a great deal of random instability which
goes away when the aureal (au8820) driver is not loaded.
I did not ecnounter the instability with 2.4.18-14.
Speculation: we've reached the end of the line for the
aureal driver on Red Hat 8.

Could you please explain why you have posted this under the
Patches section? This section is for Patches that actually fixes
something and not for any Bug reports.
Now for your Information. I'm using Kernel 2.4.20 and the
Driver works flawless on Redhat 8. I never use the stock
kernels that Redhat provides, since it wouldn't be the first time
that Redhat break's somthing.

mine is even unstable under 2.4.18-14. :(
I check the cvs repository. It seems they
didn't update the source files for several
months...
