Is it, currently, possible to use the rear speakers  on linux?

Add:  I don't care about it playing "rear channels", I just want to be able to plug speakers so it plays. Currently even if I plug them there is no sound playing from those speakers.. is it normal?

Search the forums.  There is a way to do it, but I don't have the information in front of me right now.

i have the klipsch promedia 4.2 speakers (4 satellites & a sub) and the rear speakers work fine. i also have a monstersound mx300 which has two signal outputs (each support two channels - so 4 speakers are supported by the soundcard). it works pretty well, and i can't complain... except for that slight imperfection in sound quality - i mean, i hate buying fantastic speakers and then because of driver shortcomings not be able to enjoy them.
