Audacity developers and translators: I graduated from Harvey Mudd College on Sunday, and this week I am moving from California to Vancouver BC. I won't be able to work on Audacity development for about a week, though I will try to read my mail occasionally. Sunday night I had the great pleasure of meeting with Joshua and Dominic in person. We talked of many things, including some translation news: First, the new website should be ready soon. Dominic is working on code to make the site multi-lingual. We will send instructions to the translation list when we are ready for localization. Second, we talked about the documentation. Because Audacity 1.0 will have only the English interface, the translated user's manual will need to give instructions for using the English version. Keep this in mind while translating the current version of the docs. When the manual is updated for Audacity 1.1, then it will refer to the localized interfaces. Finally, we talked about setting up mailing lists where international users can send questions in their own languages, and other users or contributors can answer those questions (using the English help list as a resource when necessary). Let us know if you have any comments on this idea. Thanks everyone, and I'll be back soon! -- Matt Brubeck |
