Suggestions:

1. You should consider doing better control over lame.
I know it supports VBR for a long time.

2. As user I, also, suggest asking for the name of the
new track first
(but by default it should be Audio Track, so user will
hit enter for the
same result). Useful when recording several variations
of same track (My
expirince while recording guitar- I GET LOST EVERY
TIME!!!).

3. Audacity needs to make the diferent between
exporting as... and exporting
selection as... 
Export as - name of the Project.(mp3,ogg...)
Export selection as - some combination of names
(track1-track2.something for
example)

Hi developers & others

My first post here.  I hope this is the place to make development =
suggestions.

1. VU levels for monitoring the input level at any time -- while =
recording and prior to recording.  Very important.

2. If a WAV file is opened via the command-line, closing Audacity should =
simply prompt to save any changes made to the WAV file and nothing else =
-- no project files etc.  This may need to be a preference.  This is for =
speed reasons for people who do a lot of creating and editing of audio =
files, for example, announcements for radio stations.  I run a =
non-commercial LPFM station.  I have Windows set up so I can right-click =
a WAV file and "Send To" Audacity.  I then just want to click the [X] =
Close button to save changes, but instead I have to Export To WAV, and =
click Save, then Close Audacity which prompts to save a project file.  I =
have no interest in using project files and I think this should be =
optional.

Otherwise it's a great piece of open source software.  Well done.  I =
hope these suggestions can be incorporated into a future version to make =
it even better.
