I have a BeBox that I'm not using for much and tought that it would rock =
to be able to run Audacity on it. I have never performed a software =
port to a different OS and was wondering if anyone out there with or =
without experience would be willing to work with me on doing this?
Please contact me if you are interested!
Does anyone think that there might be other people interested in running =
this great app on a killer OS like Be(now Zeta)? Or would this work =
just be for my own fulfillment?

Two of the Audacity developers (myself and Joshua Haberman) are old BeOS
hackers, so we would definitely be interested!
All of the code in Audacity is designed to be portable (it runs, after
all, on Windows, MacOS, and Linux). Most of the work of porting would
involve porting the underlying libraries; in particular the wxWindows
toolkit and the PortAudio API.
Some work has been done on porting wxWindows to BeOS. This effort
appears to be abandoned. There is is some information and a link to
the (currently dormant) mailing list on this page:
The wxWindows port is definitely the largest undertaking, and I expect
it will involve a whole lot of non-trivial work.
PortAudio for BeOS has also been started, by Audacity's own Josh
Haberman. He can give you more details on that.
If you're interested in working on this, please subscribe to
audacity-devel and introduce yourself. We can provide tips and answer
any questions you have.
