I'm having problems with both Audacity 1.0.0 and 1.1.3 where samples and frames get dropped while recording. The problem is worse with 1.1.3; frames are dropped from the very start of a recording session. With 1.0.0, I can recorded several minutes before the problem starts and frames/samples are sporadically dropped once it does begin. The humble windows Sound Recorder doesn't exhibit this problem. Dropped frames are noticed as skipped seqments in the speech/music.
This problem appears on two platforms I'm using: a laptop with a 1Ghz P3 running win2k (512 MB ram) and a 600 Mhz Celeron running win98 (128 MB ram). Before recording, I terminate all non-essential programs lurking in the taskbar and use the task manager to verify that they're gone. Both computers use the Intel 810/830 family of graphics chips which use system ream for display ram.
Obviously, others have had success using Audacity for recording. Can anyone offer advice/solutions to this newbie?
