Bill, Again, I really hope a QA'er on Mac can give compiling a try. It's a big investment in time to set it up, but once you have it going it takes relatively little time. This problem would either have been fixed or promoted by now if we had been able to test solutions. Thanks for raising it again. Gale: Thanks. I didn't find it because it is called "add version info to log" and is a P5 and DEVEL - FIX MADE. Not likely to get much attention with those flags. -- Bill On 25-Oct-11, at 12:17 PM, Gale Andrews wrote: > > | From Bill Wharrie <billwh@...> > | Mon, 24 Oct 2011 22:23:05 -0400 > | Subject: [Audacity-quality] Audacity Information dialog on Mac >> Before I stick my neck out and raise a bug on bugzilla ... >> >> I see that that pesky "Audacity Information" dialog still exists in >> the Oct 25 Mac nightly. See the bug report for some options about where to place the Audacity version number in the code. A developer might be able to see a better solution. > Could other Mac users test this please? I guess even if you have this issue, at least a subset of Mac users will. What we *really* need is someone in QA who can build Audacity on Mac, so we have more flexibility to test patches. This problem would not have languished so long otherwise. I think it's a really useful enhancement on Windows and Linux to have version number at the top of the log. But on Mac, we have this information dialogue and don't get the version number in the log at all. > If it affects all Macs then I would call it a regression on 1.3.12 and > worthy of a P1. Before I stick my neck out and raise a bug on bugzilla ... I see that that pesky "Audacity Information" dialog still exists in the Oct 25 Mac nightly. It interferes with opening projects and audio files - see this thread on the forum http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=60598&start=50 Could other Mac users test this please? If it affects all Macs then I would call it a regression on 1.3.12 and worthy of a P1. -- Bill |

As we all know, the "Cross Fade In" / "Cross Fade Out" effects do not "cross fade". I would like to propose replacing the "Cross Fade In" and the "Cross Fade Out" effects with this effect that does cross-fade (download link: http://forum.audacityteam.org/download/file.php?id=4199 ). A brief summary of this effect: Name: * Cross Fade... Main Options: * Cross Fade (default) * Fade In * Fade Out * Show Help Other Options: * The fade shape may be linear, a simple curve, or an "S" curve (raised sine/cosine) * The cross-fade length is adjustable between 0.1 and 10 seconds (longer/shorter cross-fades are possible by text entry). Default settings: * Fades-out the initial 5 seconds of the selection and fades-in the final 5 seconds of the selection, then moves the fade-in section so that it overlaps with the fade-out section to produce a 5 second (linear) cross-fade. A linear cross-fade will often sound like the loudness drops mid way through the fade, so this effect includes a "curve" control to adjust the shape of the fade. Increasing the Curve setting will cause the mid-fade level to be higher (the terminology here is consistent with that used for the cross-fade slider on a DJ mixer). The "S Curve" is particularly well suited for fading out songs and commonly used on professional recordings. Steve |

Vaughan said "yes" to that (I think this discussion was on one of the lists). The "recommended" version remains: http://audacity.googlecode.com/files/audacity-win-unicode-1.3.13.exe which most people will obtain. We could not change that because it would have meant modifying an existing release which is against "policy": http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Release_Process#Policies The "newer" version has had 5796 downloads. Have you seen any Forum reports against either version for R6034 errors or other issues like failing to launch? I've seen no problems in recent months. Gale |

I ran into the CEO of Izotope at a conference, and followed up by emailing him, and asked whether they have any problems running their plugins in Audacity. Here's a thread of email from their QA guy who ran some tests, Tedd Terry. For developers, does anybody know offhand whether Audacity has support for delay compensation in plugins? For QA folks, any responses to his questions in the last paragraph? Probably a good idea for us to do this generally, at least with major plugin developers. Thanks, Vaughan -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: Audacity plug-in compatibility Date: Wed, 05 Oct 2011 19:08:02 -0400 From: Tedd Terry <tterry@...> To: Vaughan Johnson <vaughan@...> Sure, go ahead and forward it. I'm the best contact for any issues developers encounter with our products. If anyone wants to run a quick test, all of our products have an unrestricted 10 day trial period. Also bear in mind that I didn't have time for a full sweep so I haven't checked all of our products in Audacity and I didn't poke around too hard for latency compensation options...
