I apologize if this is a Seriously Annoying Newbie Question, but after
reading all relevant sections of the manual I can't find anything wrong
with my assumptions.
I'm running OS X.3.7, and I just installed Audacity 1.2.3. I want to
save a couple of segments of MP3 files as AIFF. The way I read the
docs, they say all I need to do is change the default uncompressed
export format from WAV to AIFF.
But this persistently causes the app to crash. I tried making the prefs
change immediately on launching the app, I tried making it only when I
had a small selection open ready to save. I see that I need 16bit for
iTunes; I can't find a way to save as 8bit or 16bit or 32bit without
inviting an immediate crash.
The LAME encoder installed fine and I have saved as MP3 without
incident. Though, interestingly, I _can't_ tell the prefs where LAME
is, I have to wait per wiki instructions until I try to save as MP3 and
then locate LAME per the dialog box prompt. The prefs do not
subsequently display this location info.
I've tried changing other prefs and in all instances to date, any
change also results in an app crash as soon as I try to save that
I've got a workaround, in that I can solve the problem by using
MP3-to-AIFF instead. Indeed this has done exactly what I wanted in my
test case. But it'd be super-neat if I could make Audacity do what it
says it can.
Please, can some kind soul point me in the right direction?
