I just finished translating the po-file into Dutch for Audacity 1.1, but
I can't get Audacity to use it.
I tried to follow the instructions on the Audacity webpage:
$ whereis audacity
so I did (as root):
# cd /usr/local/bin/
# mkdir nl
# cd nl
# cp /home/tino/vertalen/audacity.mo .
Then I launched audacity again, but it was still in english.
So I did
# echo $LANG
So I made a directory nl_NL.ISO-8859-1
and copied audacity.mo to that one as well.
Launched Audacity and it was still in english.
Can somebody tell me what I did wrong, and how to get my translations
PS whom should I send the Dutch po-file?

Sorry about that -- the directions need to be modified somewhat for Linux.
On Linux, the audacity.mo file should go into this directory:
> # echo $LANG
Audacity 1.1.0 does not check the LANG variable (though it should do this
eventually). You will need to type "nl" into the Language field of the

You can send the file to me at <mbrubeck@...>. Thanks!

That directroy does not exist on my linux-system (RedHat 7.3)
RH7.3 apparently puts the .mo files in
Doing that and choosing nl in the audacity language preferences makes it
work on my system. Thanks.
Will the instructions on the website be updated?
Although the po file was translated 100%, still only a minor portion of
the interface is in Dutch.
I grabbed the pot file from the website, so I guess that's the one from
the CVS version right?
I guess a lot of strings have changed since version-1.1.0 came out.
When will the next version be announced?
