I think that was my mistake there.  He didn't say he was recording while playing back another track.  My apologies
to everyone who took the time to read my first reply.

Please correct me if I'm wrong (somebody), but I thought any latency effect is caused by the DACs and ADCs in the sound card, not by the computer hardware (CPU, disk, etc.), because the computer buffers the audio data, and because writing digital data for two stereo tracks to disk (i.e., 'recording') uses only a fraction of a computer's disk and processing resources.  But I guess if the computer were playing back a number of other prereorded tracks simultaneously, that could put a much greater load on its resources.

Subject: [Audacity-users] Off beat

I've noticed this problem while recording. Often the tracks go off beat. It seems to be playing the second track a little earlier than the first one and hence going off beat. A little tweaking solves the problem but it's a everytime thing. My laptop is a 1.8 ghz processor and 256 mb ram so I'm good as far as the system requirements are concerned. Have any of you guys had a similar problem?

Thanks in advance,

Kish
