Hi,

I've used Audacity on and off for a few years. I originally studied music and then music technology however I ultimately moved into computer programming (seems like this happens to a lot of people!). I've recently moved back into the audio world, doing some editing of live radio shows for podcasting. I'd like to use Audacity for this work however I'm a bit frustrated because it lacks a few features that I need. Because of my programming background I'd probably be able to implement some of these provided they're not too difficult!

Anyway, off the top of my head, here are a couple of questions:

1. Why does the playback cursor disappear and lose its position when playback stops?

2. Audacity supports plugins (great!) but how is it possible to monitor what they're doing? For example, I often need to use compression in my editing work but I can't figure out how to check the gain reduction that's being applied - is it actually possible to do this?

I guess what I'm asking is, is there a design reason for Audacity being like this?

Cheers,

Chris
