I just noticed Tulip does not allow anything else but numerical metrics to order lines/columns. As far as I understand, ordering the entries only requires a total order on nodes. So any metric allowing to be totally ordered can be used -- for instance, it should be possible to allow String properties since they can be lexicographically compared (lex order is a total order).
Could be useful also to let users select different orders on a same metric (military order for strings, for one).

for the next release. The choice between ascending/descending ordering
has been added too.
