ACollab Work Groups 1.1 Released

ACollab is a fully accessible, open source, multi-group, Web-based collaborative work environment.

Translating ACollab

With the next release of ATutor planned for the end of April 2004, ACollab will be available as a standalone group collaboration tool and as an addon for ATutor so instructors can conduct group activities as part of their teaching. Log into MyATutor to translate ACollab:

The ACollab standalone is now available for translation. ATutor translators are encouraged to log into the ATutor.ca Web site to translated the ACollab software. The translation site for ACollab is much like the translation site for ATutor: you can open the translation database in one browser window, and view your translation using ACollab in a second window as you enter new language into the database.... read more

* SCORM Conformant Content Packaging: ATutor will create content packages that can be exported to other SCORM conformant systems, and ATutor can import content from those systems.

* Upgraded Content Editor: A tabbed layout allows instructors to switch between the content editor, document properties, keywords/metadata editor, glossary editor, and preview screens.

* New Look & Feel for Intro Pages: The login screen, browse courses, registration, and other ATutor introductory screens have been redesigned with a more attractive appearance. ATutor 1.3 is scheduled for release November 14. If you are waiting for a language pack to be released in your language, why not volunteer to join a group of translators, or start a group of your own. Register as an ATutor member to request a Translator account. (http://www.atutor.ca)

The IMS Content Packaging release of ATutor is now available for testing and feedback. Post your comments to the ATutor forums before November 14th, to be included in the production release of ATutor 1.3 coming in the latter part of November.

The primary goal in the past development period has been to add interoperable content support to ATutor. Content created in ATutor can now be exported as IMS compliant content packages that can be viewed offline in the accompanying package viewer, imported back into another ATutor course, onto another ATutor server, into a learning objects repository, or into another IMS compliant LCMS. The next release of ATutor is only a few weeks away. The primary new feature in this release will be a set of IMS content packaging tools. With the addition of these tools, content created in ATutor becomes interoperable with other IMS compliant elearning systems. A Minor release is available that corrects problems some were experiencing exporting ATutor courses from Windows 2000 systems. Download the latest release from SourceForge.

If you are a Windows users, you should upgrade to V1.2.2. Linux (etc) users do not need to upgrade from V1.2 (though it doesn't hurt if you do).

Language Patch Release: fixes problems with the default
language not loading on some fresh installs of V1.2.

If you are installing ATutor for the first time, or upgrading
from version 1.1 or earlier, choose version 1.2.1.

If you had trouble with the default language loading when
you installed V1.2, then replace that version with V1.2.1

If you already have V1.2 installed and the language seems
to be displaying properly, then you don't need to update (It
doesn't hurt if you do)

ATutor 1.2 has been released, an Open Source Web-based Learning Content Management System (LCMS) designed to be accessible to assistive technology users, and adaptable to a diverse range of learning styles and skills.

New in ATutor 1.2

Multilingual support is the primary "new feature" in this release. We've created a set of tools that allow users to translate the ATutor interface and manage languages from within ATutor. The language itself has been removed from the files used in previous versions and moved into the MySQL database running behind ATutor. The primary goal in developing ATutor V1.2 has been to add support for internationalization. We have created a database on the ATutor Web site for collecting ATutor language and generating new language packs. All that's left now, before the 1.2 release, is to complete the Spanish and French translations (within a few weeks). Another half a dozen languages are also being translated, and will be added to the downloads on the ATutor Web site as they become available.... read more

Since the initial ATutor release in Dec 2002 we have had many offers from translators. As a result we have focused our recent efforts on the creation of a translation database and a collection of online translation tools. Chances are when you read this the ATutor translation site will be up and running, and ATutor V1.2 will be out there with full language support, and a few other odds-n-ends we've added or upgraded since V1.1. The V 1.1 release of ATutor is coming in February.

Get it from Atutor.ca. As stated previously, this version is a complete rewrite and is not compatible with any previous releases.

ATutor is an adaptive learning environment and Web-based course authoring tool, created with PHP and MySQL, and available under the GNU GPL. It can be used to host multiple courses, to publish content in an interactive environment, or as an easy to install and administer courseware package for ISPs. ATutor can be adapted in many different ways to suit the preferences of each individual learner.

Version 0.9.6 is here. This pre release includes a bunch of bug fixes and some new features (chat, forums, user manangement,layout preference settings, and more).

The first public release of ATutor is now available for download.
