Adaptive Multi-Rate (AMR) and aTunes

Recently I encountered with a problem of playing AMR files (written by a
mobile phone). I found that MPlayer and it's GUI versions (like SMPlayer) can
play this format easily. But, unfortunately, aTunes can't. Why? What prevents
aTunes from executing 'mplayer - quiet -slave blablabla.amr', when it works
from the console? I have 2 codecs (amnb & amrwb) installed. If that's a key,
maybe it is possible to include those codecs in a standard aTunes build for
making possible to play AMR (quite popular on cellulars) out of the box?

We don't support all the file formats mplayer can play. We mainly do this to
reduce the number of file formats without tag support.
