As well as the Description tag, can you please look into adding support for the Long Description tag as well.

I want to be able to have the little i show up at the right of the description field in itunes (like the itunes store) that if clicked, displays the long description.

iTunes only stores long description in its own internal database, not within individual files, so it is not possible for AtomicParsley to set this. For example, make a duplicate of a file with that long description - when itunes opens the duplicate, the long description is no longer present.

You can use Apple's Script Editor to set the long description via Applescript. It still won't get saved to the file, but its better than nothing. Things like date added, my rating & playcount are in the same boat.

    tell application "iTunes"
set foo to the current track
set foo's long description to "Rolanda Watts for Boeing"
    end tell

Hey - Maybe this is a new development, but movies purchase from the iTunes store do have a long description Atom "ldes". This longer description shows up on Apple TV. It would be great to be able to set this tag on my own movies!

Here's an exerpt from the tags from Italian Job:
    ...
Atom "sonm" contains: The Italian Job (2003)
Atom "soar" contains: F. Gary Gray
Atom "----" [com.apple.iTunes;iTunEXTC] contains: mpaa|PG-13|300|For violence and some language.
Atom "ldes" contains: The plan was flawless. The execution was perfect. Charlie Croker pulled off the crime of a lifetime. The one thing that, he didn't plan on was being double-crossed. Now he wants more than the job's payoff...he wants payback. Mark Wahlberg is electrifying as Croker in this "fast and furious action-adventure." Along with a drop-dead gorgeous safecracker (Charlize Theron), Croker and his team take off to re-steal the loot and end up in a pulse-pounding, pedal-to-the-metal chase that careens up, down, above and below the streets of Los Angeles. With an ensemble all-star cast that also includes Edward Norton, Seth Green, Jason Statham, Mos Def, Franky G and Donald Sutherland, The Italian Job is "Hot!"
    Atom "----" [com.apple.iTunes;iTunMOVI] contains: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">

    Hi ...

I have investigated this issue, and now i can confirm that long description can actually be stored in the file.

I have made some modifications to the latest version, added a --longdescription command line, and the code inside to handle it.
and i have used itunes 9, and now the description displays the famous "i", and when pressed the long description is displayed.

And i have been using this modified code now sucessfully, both on Windows version, as well as in my freebsd box.

I have also tested this on iTunes windows and mac versions. And on Mac using Front Row the long description also gets displayed correctly.

I am trying to contact puck_lock as i would like to contribute to this project.

    Fred

The modifications for the Long description are the ones that have been submitted as a patch 2096301 by Lowell Stewart ( lowellstewart ) (thank!). They work.

i have added the small fix for the desc when bigger than 255 as it was not being trimmed down, resulting in a empty desc has it was bigger than 255.
