According to the agreed work item in 3GPP the 26.244
spec shall be changed to include ID3V2 tags inside of a
data box. This was agreed for an update in version 6.4
to 7.0 on May 19, 2006.

See chapter 8.3 of the CR (referenced below)

It was a preliminary form of metadata at http://www.mp4ra.org/
specs.html#id3v2 for many months, then became finalized & 3gp picked it up
shortly thereafter. When I first saw that preliminary proposal, I remember
thinking AP was a long way off from supporting ID32. Half of it is already
done to support 3gp tags (the language part).

I'd like to think I'll get around to it someday, but I think it will be many
months away. This will hopefully serve as a reminder.

I agree this was adopted by MP4 and 3GPP adopted and was
working on the other side of getting this into the
standards via some colleagues in the working groups.

I think you will see some uptake of this from the mobile
world, and will be happy to see if you make some updates to
support this. Also happy to see it supported in MPEG4
    files.

    regards,
and thanks for a new tool

Preliminary ID3/ID32 support has been added. Text frames, comment/lyrics, urls & embedding/extracting pictures should work. Most of
the rest will be added at a later point.

I'll doubt all the frames will be supported, but I hope to add things like GEOB & group symbols eventually.
