Hello,
I installed aterm (with --enable-kanji) in my
Linux box. I have a very important problem.
In my system, I can use xim (X input method) in rxvt.
However, I cannot use xim in aterm.
This is very important for Japanese.
Since I like the transparancy with background tinting of
Aterm, I will use it not rxvt.
Please check the code to compare the current rxvt.
(At least, version 2.6.3 works well for me.)
If you did not use xim, but please consider to fix
for Japanese.

I'm able to use xim with aterm. I tested with kinput2. The
way it works for aterm is a bit different from rxvt. rxvt
accept -im flag, aterm doesn't. Instead you have to set
XMODIFIERS="@im=kinput2" in order to have aterm to use xim.

rxvt-unicode (when satrted in a japanese locale, compiled
with xim and tinting and transaprency support etc) does work
nicely with kanji and supports most of the tinting/shading
logic of aterm.
