Asymptote language is very close to C already, but it is not meant to be compiled in C.
Wouldn't be useful to generate output from a C or C++ program it self by calling functions for an eventual asymtote library.
For example suppose I have mathematical functions that are implemented in C or C++, like from gnu gsl, if I want to plot these functions it would be ideal to produce the plot from a C or C++ program itself.
It may look that some syntax has to be lost, but nowadays C++ can simulate almost any syntax (see Boost.Lambda/Boost.Phoenix) in such a way that the code looks very similar to the original Asymptote syntax.
