astapi locks up xp sp2 computer after serveral calls
Status: Alpha

Making calls from outlook or CTI DataConnector work
great for several calls, but after several calls there is a
large(like 12-15MB) srvhost.exe process that locks up
the computer.
If you kill the process after 2-3 calls, everything runs fine
and you can continue to make calls. If you dont, the
computer starts loosing functionality and will not
respond to CTRL-ALT-DEL or any attempts to reboot. A
hard reboot is required via the power button on the
computer.
Any help would be appreciated, either a fix or a work
around.
Thanks so much!

I had the same problem - in my case I Finally tracked it down
to the Cisco Tapi Driver that I had uninstalled from
Add/Remove programs without first removing the Cisco TSP
Driver from 'Phone and Modem Tapi Options'. Solved the
issue by reinstalling the cisco Tapi Software, then Removing
the Cisco Tapi Driver from 'Phone and Modem Tapi Options'
and THEN removing the cisco tapi software from 'Add/Remove
programs'. Now that the Cisco TSP driver reference had gone
from 'Phone and Modem Tapi Options', I rebooted and have
not had the issue since - hope this helps

I'm having the same issue with asttapi on my Windows XP
SP2 box which becomes useless needing a hard reset.
I am using asttapi along with Call Alert! for CallerID
information on the traybar so I can see who is calling, but
after I receive a few calls, the computer becomes
unresponsive much as you seem to indicate.
I never had a Cisco tsp installed on this machine, so nothing
to uninstall there.

I Have the same prob on any maschine ever installed. The
svhost crashes, only hard reset helps. Doesn't matter if xp
sp1 or sp2. Tapi is unusable in this stage of development.
Any fixes or ideas?? Or maybe alternatives for asttapi?

I am currently using: CroomeAsteriskWinManager
Which can be found at:
http://www.dynx.net/ASTERISK/misc-
progs/CroomeAsteriskWinManager.zip
It works as advertised, is free. Calls are made while
highlighting a contact, not with the contact open.

thx a lot, Croome works fine

Only problem with Croome is that you need to unload it
manually, otherwise windows wont logoff nor will it reboot.
Small sacrafice...:)

With the lastest TSP-driver supporting Asterisk v1.2 from
Kirkham systems http://www.kirkhamsystems.com/asttapi
the problem is solved.
Let's hope Clint at Kirkham systems uploads his source
codes to this page.
