Yes a number of softphones work well via VPN EXCEPT:
1) You will lose connectivity when the phone sleeps and/or
2) Your battery life will be woeful

This is why you need push notifications.

    I am surprised it works very well even over VPN.
    Although I tested only one day on only one smartphone a recommendation.
