That's an interesting point, Michael.  Do you think adding a "rootdelay" might help?  If so, is it possible to add something to the KCMD line in the .run.conf file in an already-built environment?

Hi Josh,

I don't think that has something to do with the PS/2 ports.
I looked at dmesg on my old Soekris net5501 (also no PS/2 ports): the same message as yours occurs, but then directly after it the CF card is loaded:

Maybe your storage medium has temporary issues …
