Change your account and Asterisk to IAX. this can be done with voip.ms easily. They even supply sample configs
With an Asterisk box working there is no reason to use SIP and have a giant red flag on your back.

Shut off any open SIP ports

After this is done, are there any attempts?
If so , what ports?

As to passwords, I was referencing the Asterisk/AstLinux defaults for https and SSH. If these ports are turned off in your router except when Josh or ?? is helping with configuration changes, they should not be an issue
