In preparing for the 0.4.5 release of Astlinux, there have been several things happening in the background. We've been busy (mostly Kristian) adding features to trunk in the development environment. Ingmar added iaxmodem, efax and a few other fax related packages. I added iftop. Eventually those changes will become 0.5.0. Since Kristian is spending most of his time working on trunk, I volunteered to maintain the 0.4 branch. The plan is to maintain the 0.4 branch for bug fixes and possibly minor feature additions. Some of the eventual changes in what will become 0.5 are pretty major and exciting. I'll let Kristian explain those in due time. 0.4.5 will include new versions of Asterisk, Zaptel, openssl, openvpn and a few other version bumps. What I need from the community as a whole is a list of bugs that exist in 0.4.4. Several things have been fixed in trunk, but may still exist as bugs in 0.4.4. I'm working my way through the svn changes to trunk to see what applies to 0.4, but there were nearly 200 changes since 0.4.4 was released. In the next week or so, I hope to release a 0.4.5 release candidate for testing purposes. If there are no major issues, 0.4.5 will be released in mid March. Darrick, Do you know if the fax related packages that Ingmar is adding will support faxing over a SIP connection like NVFAXDETECT? Hi Kevin, you can use iaxmodem to talk to a fax application. The best choice here is to use Hylafax on a remote system. This combo allows you to send/receive faxes via Zaptel, mISDN, etc. eFax should work too. Maybe some configuration tweaks are necessary. Darrick probably has a look. I'll check too if time allows. In an rather experimental state I have running spandsp with app_?xfax over mISDN. I managed to send/receive faxes. However, for sending faxes, a nice interface is missing. That's just a proof of concept at this moment. However, I had some issues with newer spandsp versions to get cross-compiled. I talked to Steve Underwood and he could fix one issue and the other one I noticed, I have to re-test. That's the status. Fax over SIP... did you test this - not with Astlinux but on a standalone system? Heard reliability is an issue. I can't comment on this because I haven't tried it. cheers, Ingmar quoting Kevin Kiely > Darrick, > > Do you know if the fax related packages that Ingmar is adding will support > faxing over a SIP connection like NVFAXDETECT? > > Thanks, > > Kevin > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Darrick Hartman [mailto:dha...@dj...] > Sent: Tuesday, February 20, 2007 5:08 PM > To: AstLinux Users Mailing List > Subject: [Astlinux-users] AstLinux next release > > In preparing for the 0.4.5 release of Astlinux, there have been several > things happening in the background. Hi everyone, Just let you know that I do tests with asterisk <--> mISDN <--> spandsp <--> iaxmodem <--> hylafax Did a lot of research finding the best solution especially for the fax app. Hylafax is definite the winner it has a superior error checking and automatic correction mechanism. Running a system in production for one month now at a customer who send / receive between 20 -30 faxes a day. Read about rxfax / txfax that they have no crc build in but forgot to bookmark this information don't know if this is true :) regards, Peter ----- Original Message ----- From: "IS" <is...@es...> To: "AstLinux Users Mailing List" <ast...@li...> Sent: Wednesday, February 21, 2007 12:50 AM Subject: Re: [Astlinux-users] AstLinux next release > Hi Kevin, > > you can use iaxmodem to talk to a fax application. Hello Peter, the best/most reliable configuration for a production system is iaxmodem+hylafax. That's the configuration you are using. spandsp 0.0.3 includes some ECM features, what helps if you run it with app_fax. I have this combination running, but having said, I am not sending receiving tons of faxes to/from different location in the world. If I would need to send/receive so many faxes, I'd really go for hylafax! regards, Ingmar quoting Peter Roelandts > Hi everyone, > > Just let you know that I do tests with > > asterisk <--> mISDN <--> spandsp <--> iaxmodem <--> hylafax > > Did a lot of research finding the best solution especially for the fax > app. > > Hylafax is definite the winner it has a superior error checking and > automatic correction mechanism. > > Running a system in production for one month now at a customer who send / > receive between 20 -30 faxes a day. > > Read about rxfax / txfax that they have no crc build in but forgot to > bookmark this information don't know if this is true :) > > regards, > > Peter > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "IS" <is...@es...> > To: "AstLinux Users Mailing List" <ast...@li...> > Sent: Wednesday, February 21, 2007 12:50 AM > Subject: Re: [Astlinux-users] AstLinux next release > > >> Hi Kevin, >> >> you can use iaxmodem to talk to a fax application. How about wanpipe DSL support in the new version? I'm currently running the older .3x version that supports Wanpipe.
