Source is attached. In its current form it will fail with the null
pointer exception. If you comment out line 19 and uncomment lines 20-23,
it works just fine.

I still dont get the NPE, even when i run your code on a plain JDK 1.5 on Linux.
Please send me a stacktrace that matches the TestingAsterisk class you
just sent.
