yes something similar, though not exactly the same.
You can either do it in Java using waitForDigit with appropriate timeout
values in a loop or you can exit the AGI script to a specific context in
the dialplan (setContext/Exten/Priority), do a Background() there and
use the features of the dialplan for pattern matching. Depending on the
match you would return to an AGI script or just Dial() the extension.
