I was asking Ivo( deverloper of APT) if he could use ASTAP to capture inferred eccentricity a naming parameter to image files by using ASTAP to share its estimation - Ivo said he certainly couldif " Maybe Han can extend the API to profive the solving result".
Is there any chance you could consider this please - anything that can tell me per image what the star eccenctricity and cloud cover would be great appreciated!
Many thanks,
Matthew

I have considered that but eccentricity measurements of reasonable sharp stars is not so reliable since each star is only a few pixels. Secondly stars outside the center will be oval by default. That oavlity depends on your optics but is unavoidable. So you likely have to limit the measurment to the center. I think ovality measurement is a redundant measurement. If the stars are getting oval then the HFD increases also. So the HFD is still a good indicator that something is wrong. In ASTAP there is oval measurement but it is a second step in analysing the image. It is not perfect. For those reasons I decided not to provide it as a command line option.

Many thanks Han - will pass that on to Ivo!
