First:
1) Solve the image
2) In viewer menu tools, "calibrate photometry"
3) Move the mouse cursor to the nova.
If the star detections fails because it is too crowded in the galaxy, then you could measure directly with viewer popup menu "Measure total magnitude within rectangle" or (in ASTAP) copy paste the supernova to a place without stars. Use for this the "copy paste menu" in the popup menu of the viewer.

This program is amazing! Is there a way to derive the magnitude of a supernova from a galaxy? Im expecting numbers around 16 or 17?
