Hi,
I use kstar/ekos for imaging but opted for ASTAP for plate solving. I'm using at times a 127mm Mak-cass with a 2.5X barlow with a crop sensor DSLR for planetary imaging and attempting also for some small galaxies which gives me a field of view of 21'x14' (maybe thats too small for plate solving?). I have been having a lot of problems plate solving. I'm using the D50 star file. However now I see there is also the D80 for smaller FOV which I've downloaded. Will it make a diffrence? if yes, where do I place the folder? do I have to uninstall D50?
Thank you,
Eli

For 21x14' the D80 will help. Uninstall or remove the D50. It is located at /opt/astap.
Unpack the D80 at the same location.
For this small field it is important to expose longer. Probably around 60 seconds. Ideally ASTAP should detect 30 stars or more.
Optional it could help to select triples=3 stars instead of quads=4 stars pattern. But try it first without. See stack menu, tab alignment. Select triples and save setting by pressing button Save settings.
Tell me if this works for you.
Cheers, Han

Hi,
Thank you so much for the quick and informative response. I should have mentioned earlier that Im using an M1 Macmini. Although I found the opt folder (it was hidden). It's empy - doesn't contain any files or folders of any kind. Is it possible in Mac the star files are in a different folder? I use the "go to folder" option in the Go menu to find it.
Thank you again for your help,
Eli

For the Mac:
To remove old database files, press in finder Command+Shift+G and go to /usr/local/opt/astap and select the old files and move them to Bin.
Unpack/move the D80 files to /usr/local/opt/astap
