    Hi Han

This morning I updated to the D50 database. For some reason this installed itself in a subfolder below the main ASTAP folder in Program Files (Windows 11 pro OS). I moved them up to folder with the .exe file.

Now, despite the files being moved to the program folder, ASTAP reports that it can't find the database.

    What could be the cause?

    Hi Al,

That is a weird. Can you select a database in the tab alignment (CTRL+A)? See attached.

Are you sure you execute the program in c:\program files\astap\astap.exe ?

Else, maybe you could try to unstall everything and reinstall ASTAP again.

If still not working try to delete the configuratiom by going to the ASTAP viewer menu. FILE, SETTINGS, RETURN TO DEFAULT SETTINGS AND EXIT.

    cs Han

Thanks for the quick response Han.

Yes, the databases show up in the alignment tab and can be selected. I've tried indidual and auto, wit thye same result.

I am actually running ASTAP from 'Program files'on my D: drive which is where I keep all applications, if possible. This has worked well up until now, but does ASTAP now expect to be on the C: drive?

This morning, strangely, it is solving (I think) without complaining (maybe just reading the solution from the FITS header) but is refusing to do deep sky annotations with the 'Can't find...' message.

I did try installing the latest version and reinstalling the database, also the return to default but still get the 'Can't find...'.

Interestingly, the Hyperleda annotations work with no problem (but then hyperleda.csv is there in the directory).

Is there another .csv file for DSOs which I've somehow missed?

The standard deepsky annotations are stored in a file "deep_sky.csv" You can just move the file to the same location as astap.exe. ASTAP and support file can be at any location. The only condition is that they are all in the same directory.

You should be able to install ASTAP at the D: drive. Maybe there is still an other version at the C: drive. If so you can just execute the uninstall program:

    C:\Program Files\astap\unins000.exe

There could be more then one uninstall executable so an unins001.exe, unins002.exe...

Probably best is to clean up by uninstalling and remove any left overs.

    OK, thanks again, Han.

It was deep_sky.csv that was missing. Not sure if it's in the main ASTAP install or the DB one but somehow it wasn't getting installed.

I've copied it from my imaging laptop and now all seems to be working well.

Do the latest version(s) install it? They don't seem to have done here...

Yes it should be installed for each installation. If I remember well it will skip the installation path once ASTAP is already installed. But you will see the install path for about 2 seconds when you reinstall. Have a look where ASTAP installs. See screenshot.

    OK, got it, thanks.

All working now on all three: desktop PC, laptop and netbook.
