Hello Han,
Thank you for the excellent ASTAP, I have been using it for a few months now for local plate solving ( I am at the end of a long slow rural adsl copper isp connect so nova.astrometry is not always speedily available !)
I recently tried to upgrade to 2024.03.08,64bit from 2023.08.14,64bit, and found that I can no longer do an online star annotation(simbad) I get an alert that I need to install openSSL to connect to AAVSO.
I did not want to connect to AAVSO in this instance but I can do so with my usual default browser, Firefox, and also with Vivaldi, so I am wondering if I can revert the latest ASTAPs to how it used to be, or will I need to investigate what openSSL is all about for future usage?
PS.
windows7
full alert text = "Install OpenSSL. Required for https connections to AAVSO"
Firefox is connecting with https
Thanks,
Malcolm.

Ah! Thank you for your quick reply Han,
mea culpa!
I had used the executable only 2024.03.08-zip in a new directory (with its own G05 star database)
all is good now when I copy those two dll from the old setup into the new.
thanks,
Malcolm.

Hi Han,
On the other hand,
there is always a numpty out here that will manage to break even the finest of softwares :) :)
Entirely my own fault, what I should have done was to substitute the original exe with the new, in its proper place.
Where I went wrong was, in the spirit of not breaking my perfectly working ASTAP installation , to try the new exe 'stand alone' and imagine my surprise when it appeared to work just fine for my plate solving. That is when my brain entered its mad phase and thought there was a new "feature" to do with AAVSO that had broken other things !

Hi Malcom,
There should two small .dll files placed in the ASTAP program for internet access:
libeay32.dll
ssleay32.dll
Are the both in the ASTAP directory c:\program files\astap ??
They are normally installed with the program.
Maybe the latest compiler I'm using has a problem with Window 7. I will check tomorrow on a Win7 machine.

Hi Malcom,
I will add the two dll files to the zipped version. There is always something to improve. :)
