I am getting these wierd artifacts or halos aorund stars. Its been happening even with a veriaty of lenses and cameras. Both OSC and Mono. Any clue as to what it is? Must be a setting soemwher.
I have used the attached settings. First I removed 7 or 8 images where guiding was not optimal. The result looks reasonable. A little too much noise but the jpg compression takes a lot away. The best result is achieved by SHO for RGB colour. No luminance specified. There was no flat for H-alpha. I have changed one of the S masterflat to a H master flat by filter keyword change. The 4 brightest star I have improved by the option local colour smooth from the popup menu. For this option pull a rectangle 4 times bigger then the star around it.
The next image is with H-alpha as luminance. This looks less good.
Note also that one series is about 20 or 30 degrees rotated.
I don't see any strange artifact at the moment. Was this the full set?
Ok I will try these settings soon. I will have to get a flat for he H filter too. Looks like this will be a good image though once I stack all 4gb of light frames.

Here she is finished. 15hrs total of intagration time. I rejected about 60% of the frames though. Really looks awesome. So much better and easier to stretch then DSS.
Thre is a slight pattern in the image though. Any clue what that might be? Its pretty faint though. These are dithered.
I wonder Han is there a way to do a toal reset of ASTAP. Like back to as downloaded settings? I know this is possible with DSS and has saved me a number of times when I broke it back when I was using that. If there is no way to reset ASTAP perhaps a future feture request?

The image looks good. The only thing I'm not so happy about is the background near the bright stars. Maybe it helps to reduce the diameter of the colour smooth or increase the sigma of the colour smooth to a higher value then 3. You could switch off the colour smooth and do it manually on the resulting image. It is something I have to look into in the future.
Stacking of 15 hours integration takes time. Making ASTAP faster would be nice but I don't so an easy solution at the moment.
Resetting of the settings is already available. See attached.

That looks weird. Do you have a test set for me to reproduce this?
Regards, Han
Here is a screen shot of my stacking settings. I will put together a collection of the files for you to test.
Here is a drop box link.

Han were you able to look at it?
If you have not been able to replecate it perhaps there is a way to reset all my settings in ASTAP?
I was busy. I will have look later today, no problem. A reset if available at file, settings, .. but you will reset all settings.

I will attach to this posting the two results

Thank you for pointing out the reset button. I had a feeling it would already be in there somwhere.
