I've been experimenting with AP programs on my KDE Manjaro Linux laptop and would like to try HNSKY with CCDciel - However!
I already installed ASTAP for use with KStars - use it a lot - and during the process of installing HNSKY for use with CCDciel I got the following error message:
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
hnsky: /preinstall exists in filesystem (owned by astap)
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
When I try to find HNSKY in the application launcher, only the downloaded files and the webpage appear - no app. A complete filesystem search for <hnsky*> yields nothing except the download .deb file and the debtap generated .pkg file for use with Manjaro. There seems to be no 'tab' in ASTAP which calls HNSKY.</hnsky*>
A search for <preinstall> shows one shell script at /preinstall.desktop.
The contents are
/bin/sh
exit 0
Can you advise if this is an ASTAP relic which I can delete, or how I can proceed?
Tks

At the moment it is unclear for me why there is a problem. I have reinstalled both programs in Lubuntu again using Gdebi and no problem occurred.
The preinstall contains:
!/bin/sh
exit 0
So the first line is commented out. ASTAP is installed at /opt/astap
HNSKY is installed at /opt/hnsky
The only other thing what happening, the installer is putting a menu file at /usr/share/applications
Could you try an other installer?
or try to install using the command line:
sudo dpkg -i ./package_file.deb
My knowledge of Linux is limited. Worst case you could download the tar version and unpack it at your home directory in something like ~/hnsky The supporting supplement files have to be installed at the hidden directory ~/.hnsky . anyhow but they are not essential to start.

Sorry for the bother and maybe the above link will help someone else in the same (rare) circumstances!
The app is now installed and apparently working, though I did get the following error in the console:
(1/1) checking available disk space [##############] 100%
:: Processing package changes...
(1/1) installing hnsky [##############] 100%
rm: cannot remove '/opt/hnsky/Deepsky level 1.hnd': No such file or directory

Is this anything which needs fixing?

Doesn't matter so much. In the newer HNSKY version there is only one .hnd file. The original three files are combined. You can set the level 1,2 3 in the object menu. But note there are 30.000 objects so use the maximum only for small field of view. With filtering (in the object menu) you can reduce the object. e.g. > 3 arcmin is what I often use.

Thanks for your patience. I hope to try with CCDciel tonight - there may be some clear patches between the clouds <emoji -="" praying="" hands=""></emoji>

Hi Han
It's a Manjaro / debtap issue - see this thread:

I only don't understand why it would stop on a failed rm?
Regards, Han
It's not exactly a fail - there is no file to remove. I checked the .tar and there are no .hnd files contained in it. Should there be?

Sorry Han (and others)

OK
