    Good morning!

I am new to sequencing software and plate solving and have ASTAP loaded and NINA. My question is, is there a way to test Plate Solving prior to actually taking your gear outside with ASTAP? I have loaded some images fromthe night sky, but I get a fail very quickly.
I do have the v17 catalog loaded.

    Thank you in advance,

    CN

The solving will be reliable in nina if the correct focal length and sensor size are implemented.

Yes you could test it using my "Sky simulator for ASCOM". But you have to set he parameter correctly. You probable better of testing with you images already taken.

First test would be to open your image in ASTAP. There should be an estimated position in the ASTAP viewer, top left. This position could be taken automatically from the FITS file. If not enter it manually. The you set the image height in degrees correctly in the stack menu (ctrl+A) , tab alignment. If you don't know it select AUTO for image height. See red mark in the screenshot. Then hit solve button.

    Clear skies, Han
