    Hi Han,

    Hope you are keepig well?

I have just been going through my backlog of images for Ivo's new Focus routine and come across this "Access Violation" error with ASTAP whilst checking that ASTAP could solve the image. It only seems to happen with one set of subs of the Owl nebula.

I have put a copy of one of the .fits subs here, in case you need it:
    https://1drv.ms/u/s!AgjJ1doGv5CshYllr6Rdqzc6cS7bCA?e=55bhLD

APT and Pixinsight both open the image, and PS2 solves it, without a problem.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers, Jim

    Hello jim,

That requires some investigation. Alway good to investigate. Can you provide me with a copy of the image to solve (of the Owl). This is normally something like C:\APT_Images\CameraCCD_1\TemporaryStorage\ImageToSolve.jpg (or .fits)

If you don't have one, make it again next clear night.

    Cheers, Han

    Hi Han,

I have just created an ImageToSolve.jpg and an ImageToSolve .fit for you - I've put them on the cloudshare here:
    https://1drv.ms/u/s!AgjJ1doGv5CshYFraQ3R8FItgqgXtw?e=LASMIP
Note: this is a different link from the one on the first post.

However, it fails even when ASTAP is run natively. So It's nothing to do with APT, I don't think.

    Cheers, Jim

ASTAP tries to read a data table from the file causing an error. That should not happen. Something to fix.

ASTAP tries to read the thumbnail in the file created by PI causing the error here. This is an other problem

I think that was the problem. It solves now in APT.

ASTAP can also read FITS table extensions. but it can not read extra images in FITS. PI has added a thumbnail to the FITS file and ASTAP tried to read it as an ASCII table. Will fix it now.

Will upload it as ASTAP 0.9.394a.

    Thanks for the feedback, Han

    Hi Han,

I couldn't keep up with those findings! lol

The new version works perfectly. Strangely, the Blind solve seems quicker.

Anyway, thanks for a superfast fix. Excellent.

    Cheers, Jim

      Hello Jim,

Yes, a few weeks ago, I found a way to make it about 25% faster (v0.9.382). At least on my system. Didn't do too much performance testing on it.

As soon there are no changes for a month or so, I will issue it as v1.0 but there seems always something to improve. But the solver is now pretty stable. Changes are mostly introduced the viewer & stack routine.

      Cheers, Han

    Hi Han,

    It certainly is faster!

You have developed an awesome program, so I think you've done more than enough to have earned the right to go to V1.0 ;-)

Just a note... you need to update the website:
ASTAP installer, version 0.9.394a dated 2020-7-25. Alternative link, very latest development version 0.9.393a ASTAP installer , ASTAP executable only.

Thanks for you fantastic effors. All the best.

    Cheers, Jim
