The MTA on which I'm using this is managed by Plesk (its config as well). This MTA supports SMTP AUTH, but not port 587. By using ASSP on another server, we're able to translate port 587 to port 2= 5 and enforce "SMTP AUTH" at the same time. When a client can't send mail when he goes home, he will call us because we= are their mail-provider. We will tell him that the normal procedure is to = use the ISP's outgoing mailserver, but to avoid problems (SPF) and hassles = when switching. I talk him through setting up his Outlook to use ASSP as th= eir outgoing mailserver. I will use "SMTP AUTH" and port 587 to avoid the S= MTP-block many ISP's are implementing nowadays. Because the IP is new for ASSP his first testmail will be blocked. I tell h= im to wait a while, but this whole delaying thing is a bit unnecessary beca= use he's not a normal MTA, but an authenticated user providing a username a= nd a password. HELO-checks shouldn't be done either... If this MTA would be mine (it's my job's MTA), I would let the MTA listen o= n port 587 (it is using courier) with SMTP AUTH. My boss doesn't want custo= m configuration. The management-interface should reflect the real config (h= e has a point there). Plesk even manages the IP's he's using. This was just an ad-hoc solution that IS working, but has this little drawb= ack... At least now you know why I want it. JP -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van: ass...@li... This code was implemented from somebody who really wanted it. So if you code it yourself or find somebody to code it, it can be implemented. I really cannot understand what you mean with " It just gives some problems when setting up the mail-client...." ? The mail client is usually set to read Mail via POP/IMAP. The same server hostname can be used for SMTP submit . ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
