am i the only one using Debian? my Debian Sarge 3.1 install seems stable running 1.34(5) but I tried another Debian 4.1 Lenny running 1.3.3 then 1.34 (25). The main issues i have are always the Perl packages, specifically CPAN. Trying to install Compress::Zlib is a nightmare. the dependencies never resolve. Im left to using wget URL and building the package manually. CPAN ALWAYS starts up with errors (perl -MCPAN -e shell) Zlib wants HTML::Parser, HTML::Tagset, Digest::SHA, and on and on. Then finally, it runs for a few hours and quits with no log messages. Whitelist doesnt work Email interface spam@domain complains that there is no user account of that name (Exchange) What other distributions do you use? Fedora. Suse. Ubuntu I prefer no GUI. I swear when i get this all figured out im going to document it. The docs here really suck. Esp Exchange setups. Yes you change the SMTP Virtual server Ports in ESM. The whole setup need port 25 forwarding on the router, smart host usage. etc etc etc P.S. my other ASSP 1.3.4(5) on Debian 3.1 fronting for a Groupwise 6.56 MTA on Netware works fine! -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Install-Experiences--tf4424840.html#a12622146 Sent from the assp-user mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

? Who am I insulting and how? If it was something about the wiki - I wanted to know so I could address/fix it - since I manage it. But your remark was vague as to which documentation - hense my question. Also, I happen to know ppl that work for MS that are the tech writers for Exchange - so I could pass your remarks on to them if warranted. Perhaps you need to change your panties. That's could be an insult, but I'm j/k. ;-) Anyhow - There are a few of us here that are well versed in ASSP/Exchange setups, and I'm sure one of us can help you out with Exchange-related issues. -- ME2 (mobile) -----Original Message----- From: bytehd <by...@us...> Date: Tuesday, Sep 11, 2007 5:49 pm Subject: Re: [Assp-user] Install Experiences? Not you , ive seen you give great advice on the forum. Fritz, not so much. Anyways. While im enjoying the feedback from the Open Source Support dept. ill be doing a stock install from the latest Debian Netinstall. http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/daily/arch-latest/i386/iso-cd/ You are right, i cant remember the exact errors im getting. They are all perl unresolved dependencies. 1.34 uses three new modules : Net::IP::Match::Regexp Net::CIDR::Lite LWP::Simple one of these needs Compress::Zlib. Compress::Zlib wont install for me. I guess there are three ways to do Perl packages: 1) perl -MCPAN -e shell, then install Package::Name 2) apt-get install debian_package_of_similar_name 3) wget http://url_to_cpan_gz_file, perl Makefile.PL, make, make test, make install Sorry, but its my first time with perl. The dependencies are circular at times. Dont worry, Michael, ill post a link to my screen-prints when i try this again. I dont bother with things that work right the first time.... My results i was complaining about this week included: 1) Whitelist doesnt save additions, show button in gui shows nothing. (file perms?) 2) sp...@do... bounces mail back with a message that comes straight from the Exchange smtp service. I may need to check my network setup. 3) The assp.pl app simply unloads after a few hours. I was using 1.3.5(25) for all of this. internet-->dd-wrt router with port forwarding-->assp box-->(125)Exchange box exchange(smart host vserver[192.168.1.25])-->assp(25)-->assp using relay of smtp.isp.com mail flows in and out ok this setup works fine on a debian 3.1 box I have running 1.3.4(5) My other complaint about the docs was that if you started with 1.26, then 1.30, then 1.31, then 1.3.3.3 etc, you had to carefully read the install notes. new folders had to be created and files moved into them. some versions omitted (and move these files too) 1.34 was the first version to require the three new Perl modules. My attempts to load them on this Debian 4.1 box didnt go so smooth. Thats why I asked what distribution everybody used. Perhaps another has a more complete perl modules complement thanks -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Install-Experiences--tf4424840.html#a12625265 Sent from the assp-user mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

It's been a while since I've done an install (I upgrade about once a year), but never had dependency problems. Make it a point to search the debian repos for binary versions of the required libraries... I remember having to do that. For instance, for your Compress::Zlib you are having problems with, "apt-cache search perl zlib" brings up the package 'libcompress-zlib-perl'. Save yourself some headache and search for binaries before using CPAN. Just make up a domain name (that doesn't exist). Add it to your Local domains line under the Relaying section in ASSP. Your Exchange server will know it's not local and will send it out just like any other email. ASSP will pick it up knowing that it's a local domain. ASSP will take care of it from there assuming the "Email Interface" section is setup properly. Regards -----Original Message----- From: ass...@li... Ok guys. looks like you helped! I put badmail.com in my localdomains field and forwarded some spam to sp...@ba... it worked! The reason I got confused was I have another installation fronting for a Netware/groupwise system and it required no special setup for the sp...@do... address.... maybe because im running that assp installation "inline" with both a public/private NIC and groupwise uses it as its default gateway, etc. WORKS!!! THANKS!!! -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Install-Experiences--tf4424840.html#a12643552 Sent from the assp-user mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

It can even be a domain that exists (but you would never send email to). I use asspsmtp.org. Just makes sure that asspsmtp.org (or whatever you choose to use) is in [localDomains]. Ok, i did this. this is what happens: badmail.com in localDomains: "'sp...@ba...' on Thu, 13 Sep 2007 14:35:20 -0400 Could not deliver the message in the time limit specified. i know and it is. Exchange needed the Routing Group Connector Smart Host field set to [192.168.1.100] for it to work. Not-obviously, this setting was ALREADY in the smtp virtual server outbound relay setting. But that bounced them all back. Guess it needed to be in two places. works now. Exchange 2003 This detail is not in the docs. Thanks Brett. Hill, Brett wrote: > > No matter what domain you decide to use, it has to be listed in "Local > Domains".
