You always ever have one outstanding write operation, since the next is only triggered when the previous has finished. On the other hand, scheduling multiple write operations at once would be dangerous, since nothing (as far as I understand) guarantees that the writes will be performed in the order the async calls have been issued. There is no such thing as a queue (as far as asio is concerned).
