Sometimes arz shows a number of MAC addresses bigger than the number of IP addresses, that means users won't understand which is the correct one.
It would be easy to find the default MAC address if the default IP address is found before, so this is strongly related to [#12], even if the original problem was about the two different routines used by arz.

Back to the original problem, an idea is to check if an IPv4 address is given in the same block where the MAC address is. In example here:
Scheda LAN wireless Connessione rete wireless: Suffisso DNS specifico per connessione . . : localdomain Descrizione . . . . . : Scheda di rete Broadcom 802.11g Indirizzo fisico . . . . . . . . . . :00-31-00-13-FF-4E DHCP abilitato . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : Sì Configurazione automatica abilitata: . . . . . . . : Sì Indirizzo IPv4 . . . . . . : 192.168.1.9 (Preferenziale) Subnet mask . . . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.192 Lease ottenuto . . . . : martedì 20 giugno 2010 21:00:51 Scadenza lease . . . . : venerdì 30 giugno 2010 21:00:52 Gateway predefinito . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 Server DHCP . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 Server DNS . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.1 NetBIOS su TCP/IP . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : Attivato Scheda Ethernet Connessione alla rete locale (LAN): Stato supporto. . . . . . . . . . : Supporto disconnesso Descrizione . . . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) 82562GT Indirizzo fisico . . . . . . . . . . : 0A-4C-29-00-C0-4F DHCP abilitato. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : Sì Configurazione automatica abilitata . . . . . . . . : Sì
the second block shows the MAC address of an inactive connection and it should be discarded.
