Ok, the problem came from this line from Makefile.PL:

       'PM' =>{ '_h2ph_pre.ph' => '$(INST_LIBDIR)/_h2ph_pre.ph' },

which I un-commented out since I thought we would want _h2ph_pre.h
installed.

It appears from the perl docs that this probably isn't what we want to do.

The revision back to get it working is checked in...

Ok, I went back and got 1.82 and compiled it;
sure enough it is creating autosplit.ix,
so the problem must be in the set of changes between
1.82 and the current head revision.

I'll look into it some more.

compiles ok under linux. did you review the diffs between the 1.82 and
the latest CVS?
