Hi, I would like know ARS Perl (1.84 or higher ) is compatible with RHEL 5.8 or RHEL 5.6. Is there any possibility for new ARS Perl version to support RHEL 5.8 in near future? Regards, kishore. |

Hi, You should not install ARSperl from CPAN; you should install it from the sourceforce.net page using the big 'Download' button: https://sourceforge.net/projects/arsperl/ Apart from that, you should also use a C compiler ('yum install gcc' on RHEL) and download the ARS libraries from http://rrr.se/download/arapi/ Now you'd be able to modify Makefile.PL in the arsperl download, put the path to arapi in the Makefile.PL, and run perl Makefile.PL make make test (if you have a test server) make install hth, Mike On Fri, Aug 24, 2012 at 1:46 PM, <mra...@gm...> wrote: > Hi, > I would like know ARS Perl (1.84 or higher ) is compatible with RHEL > 5.8 or RHEL 5.6. > Is there any possibility for new ARS Perl version to support RHEL > 5.8 in near future? > > Regards, > kishore. > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Live Security Virtual Conference > Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and > threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond. ARSperl is a little tricky but I've successfully gotten it working on both 32-bit and 64-bit RH2.6. It takes a lot of experience working with makefiles, compile flags, and patching perl modules though, I don't recommend it for the faint of heart! -Paul On Wed, Sep 5, 2012 at 12:54 AM, Michiel Beijen <mi...@be...>wrote: > Hi, > > You should not install ARSperl from CPAN; you should install it from > the sourceforce.net page using the big 'Download' button: > https://sourceforge.net/projects/arsperl/ > > Apart from that, you should also use a C compiler ('yum install gcc' > on RHEL) and download the ARS libraries from > http://rrr.se/download/arapi/ > Now you'd be able to modify Makefile.PL in the arsperl download, put > the path to arapi in the Makefile.PL, and run > > perl Makefile.PL > make > make test (if you have a test server) > make install > > hth, > Mike > > On Fri, Aug 24, 2012 at 1:46 PM, <mra...@gm...> wrote: > > Hi, > > I would like know ARS Perl (1.84 or higher ) is compatible with RHEL > > 5.8 or RHEL 5.6. > > Is there any possibility for new ARS Perl version to support RHEL > > 5.8 in near future? > > > > Regards, > > kishore. > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > Live Security Virtual Conference > > Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and > > threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond. If there would be enough interest, I could create spec files and RPMs for RHEL6 for ARSperl. These should then also contain the ARS libs. Would that be helpful? -- Mike On Fri, Sep 7, 2012 at 2:15 AM, Paul Blasquez <pbl...@gm...> wrote: > ARSperl is a little tricky but I've successfully gotten it working on both > 32-bit and 64-bit RH2.6. > > It takes a lot of experience working with makefiles, compile flags, and > patching perl modules though, I don't recommend it for the faint of heart! > > -Paul > > > On Wed, Sep 5, 2012 at 12:54 AM, Michiel Beijen <mi...@be...> > wrote: >> >> Hi, >> >> You should not install ARSperl from CPAN; you should install it from >> the sourceforce.net page using the big 'Download' button: >> https://sourceforge.net/projects/arsperl/ >> >> Apart from that, you should also use a C compiler ('yum install gcc' >> on RHEL) and download the ARS libraries from >> http://rrr.se/download/arapi/ >> Now you'd be able to modify Makefile.PL in the arsperl download, put >> the path to arapi in the Makefile.PL, and run >> >> perl Makefile.PL >> make >> make test (if you have a test server) >> make install >> >> hth, >> Mike >> >> On Fri, Aug 24, 2012 at 1:46 PM, <mra...@gm...> wrote: >> > Hi, >> > I would like know ARS Perl (1.84 or higher ) is compatible with RHEL >> > 5.8 or RHEL 5.6. >> > Is there any possibility for new ARS Perl version to support RHEL >> > 5.8 in near future? >> > >> > Regards, >> > kishore. >> > >> > >> > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ >> > Live Security Virtual Conference >> > Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and >> > threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond. >> > Discussions >> > will include endpoint security, mobile security and the latest in >> > malware >> > threats. http://www.accelacomm.com/jaw/sfrnl04242012/114/50122263/ >> > >> > >> > -- >> > Arsperl-users mailing list >> > Ars...@li... >> > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/arsperl-users >> >> >> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ >> Live Security Virtual Conference >> Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and >> threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond. I even made a couple RPMs (one for the libs and one for ARSperl) for our internal use. However, I was under the impression that you couldn't package the libs since they're not publicly available from BMC. We got our libs from our contacts at BMC, and they were generated by hand. -- Victor Chavez, 650.736.8350 Sr. Sysadmin, Stanford IT Services |

Hi Victor, The BMC Remedy libs are of course not open source, so you can not share them under an open license. But they are redistributed, for instance on the http://rrr.se site, so sharing an RPM in a similar fashion would be no problem as well. If you already have RPMs and spec files, can you share those? -- Mike Op 11 sep. 2012 19:45 schreef "Victor Chavez" <vd...@st...> het volgende: > On 09/11/2012 04:43 AM, Michiel Beijen wrote: > >> If there would be enough interest, I could create spec files and RPMs >> for RHEL6 for ARSperl. Hi, I would be happy to redistribute any RPM:s somewhere on http://rrr.se. Maybe something similar to http://rrr.se/download/arapi/? Hi Mike,
Creating rpm is really good idea. We are waiting for it.
Thanks & Regards,
Kishore.
