Hello everyone, After one month, I've just released the new 0.64 version of Archimedes: http://sourceforge.net/projects/arquimedes/files/ It brings mainly shortcuts and a better toolbar/menu behaviour. Buttons now enable and disabled according to the software's current state. This brings room to a "current possible arguments" toolbar similar to what QCad offers. We've also corrected a few shortcuts to commands such as 'rec' instead of 'rect' for a rectangle and 'd' for distance instead of 'dist'. I also added a Leader icon. Another change is the way you can create a line. After entering the first point, you can now point your mouse to the desired direction and type in a value followed by enter. This will create a line of that distance in that direction. It can be used in any command where you are required to enter lines. The next steps are to finish supporting offset for polylines, finish the fillet algorithm and implement groups. Once we have groups, we should be able to import a DXF drawing without too many loses. Hello folks, I've just finished releasing the version 0.60.0 of Archimedes. It includes the extend feature for all elements back. It also enables trimming for semilines and fixes a minor bug on the SVG export system (texts weren't rotated correctly). Here we are people! A bit late (3 days) but still releasing the open/save feature. It is working pretty fine though there are a few minor changes with the old version files. If you need to support those, please warn me since I can easily make a translator. There is still a minor issue since it does not update the status of the file as saved. But I hope I will manage this quickly. The team could not manage to include trim back in this version since we discovered it was not going to be as easy as expected because of all the plugin issues. Hello everyone, We are back on track: Last week, the team added the intersector between an infinite line and another infinite line so grips with those elements should be working. We also corrected a few things in the Exporter system so you should now be able to save your drawings in the Archimedes file format (XML or ARC). Finally, the trim system is being re-implemented to work with the new intersection system so the command is back though it does nothing. Reminding everyone that odd versions (like 0.55) are unstable versions so you might find bugs. If you do, please report them as fast as you can so we can correct them for the next stable version. This version reintroduces the intersection features which allows intersection grip and selection by intersection one to work again. It also includes several features not yet finished but already usable such as stretch and mirror. Hello again everyone, Very sorry to have to announce that but: I just released a new set of files containing some changes about the last stable version. The critical users concerned are Linux users. For some mysterious reason, the opengl package for linux was not built last time which made both the zip and the installer give you guys a version of Archimedes without any OpenGL system. The result is quite simple, if you try to create a drawing, it just shows nothing and tells you no drawing was open. Please update to this version if you had this problem. Another thing is that shortcuts generated by the installer were wrong in 0.50.0 and I fixed that. Windows users might also want to update because I added a bug fix regarding the zoom with mouse wheel that was not centering. Now all should work perfectly on all systems. At last, Mac users might also want to update because the installer was not setting the executable flag to the software on mac with made a douple click on the App folder be useless. I fixed that too on those new installers. I am very sorry to have all those problems and I promise I will do my best to make better tests next time. This list has been dead silent for a long time but I now proud to announce a new release. Archimedes 0.50.0 is the beginning of new life for the project. It is the first release of that migration we have been talking about. It does not contains, unfortunately, all the features that were available on 0.17.1 (which was not that many feature either). It contains the essential features to have a quick fun. Of course, there are tons of essential stuff missing like saving and opening drawings, being able to fillet, trim and extend stuff... but still, it starts a new life. The main improvements are not that visible or useful now but they will help us improve the software faster and in a better shaped way. We now count with an executable file that starts the software native on each platform. This should improve response time and shows a nice splash screen (if you have a better art proposal for the screen, please send me those proposals). Also, we now count with a nice help system. It is empty at the moment since our "clients" (architects helping us decide which features we should work on first) decided that having the features back was more important than to have nice help texts. We are also accepting work on that area since we believe it would be important. There is also a new update system from within the software which should allow people to update the features installed without having to reinstall the software. Again, this has nothing available yet since we just published the data on that update site and it contains exactly the same feature as in the installer. Also, now all new user commands should have an entry in the menu which should improve new learners experience. Again, we accept a new set of icons if anyone has better suggestions regarding what we offer now. Also, we are missing icons to distance and explode. If you have suggestions, send them in. Apart from that, there are tons of missing features and our work at the moment will be to have them back in. Things should start to walk a bit faster now since the new team is getting used to the software structure and is starting to understand better how it works. That's all for now folks! Hi, everybody! It's been a while since our last release, hasn't it? End of year is driving us all mad =) The stable release isn't quite ready yet, and it's late, but we wanted you to check some of the things we've been working on (though it's not much). * Fillet with radius is working, really cool, try it out =) * Layon & Layoff commands are ready, no icons yet. Layoff allows you to select elements so their layers will be made invisible. Layon turns visible all invisible layers. * Some work has been done on dimensions. The available command is "dimension" =). We've just made it display the measure, but it's quite ugly for the moment. Work in progress: position the text orrectly, resize it, restrict "precision" (don't know how to say it in english, but you'll know what I mean when you see it). * Ask for confirmation when overwriting a file. * Some corrections: undo in the line command and mirror of the arc. A new Archimedes unstable version has been released yesterday. Here's what changed: * Explode command (explode, x) explodes polylines into lines. * Trim for closed elements is now working correctly. * Now, when Archimedes crashes it saves a file with information about it in a temporary folder (the same used for auto-save files, that can be configured under Edit->Edit workspace properties... menu option. The saved crash info files follows the name pattern "ArchimedesError[date].log". This can be very useful when reporting problems to us. * Creating arc by its center has improved a bit. After typing 'c', the first parameter expected is the center point (and not initial and ending as before). This makes more logical sense. Also, when the three points have been determined, its possible to determine the side of the arc with 'enter' (or any equivalent). Before only left-click worked. * Snap icons have become thicker, and so more visible. * We've improved arc stretch to be more "predictable". The stretch maintains the arc middle point if it's done on some extreme. Also, it's possible to stretch just the middle point. The center point still moves the arc. * Offset ends with 'enter'. Before it ended only with esc. * 'd' is a shortcut for the distance command, and not erase. * Image exporting (jpg, bmp) uses the element's screen color. That's all for this release. Hello, everybody! Version 0.16.0 of Archimedes was released this weekend, and there's a lot of new stuff (from 0.14) to be reported. The first thing you'll notice is a bunch of new icons on the toolbar. Most of the commands they represent were already there, but now they are visibly available. Also, if you're italian, you'll see that Archimedes now has an italian translation. Thanks to Davide Presenti for doing the translation =) So here's the list of new features: * Remebering open drawings. If you close Archimedes with some drawings open, when you run it again you'll see the program remebers - and reopens - those drawings you were working on. * Auto save of undergoing work. If the program crashes, when you run it again your work won't be totally lost, because from time to time the drawing is saved to a temporary file. The folder temp files are saved to and the time it takes to do an auto-save may be edited under "Edit->Workspace Properties..." menu. * Text edition. Texts may be edited by double clicking the text or with the 'edittext' command. * Mirror. Elements may now be mirrored with the 'mirror' command. No icon for this one yet. * Extend. It works a bit like trim, except that instead of cutting elements at the intersection with the references, it extends elements to the references. It's possible to alternate between trim and extend by holding down the shift key. * SVG export. (This was an easy one, actually. SVG is pretty neat =) * New circle snap points: at angles 0, 90, 180 and 270. Changes and corrections: * It's possible to create texts with spaces (at "creation time"). * You see the current command (if any) all the time on the interpreter. * Copying between drawings (now called "to the clipboard") carries layer information, so layers are copied too. If a layer with the same name on the destination drawing already exists, it is used. With this, layer names have become unique. * The perpendicular snap icon now actually is a perpendicular symbol. =) * Whenever a selection is performed, you're informed how many elements are selected. * Rectangles and arcs ignore if the orto is on. * "Multi" commands properly end with both enter and esc. These include polyline, line, copy, trim and others. * A fillet bug that erased closed polylines when one tried to fillet them has been corrected. * Perpendicular grip is working on all commands. The exception: polyline (or area) with the lines defined by themselves. It's pretty much that. (Read the SourceForge release notes if you'd like to know the little things that I spared you of). Hi, everybody. There was a brazilian holiday last thursday, and that did not help us get things done. So this release doesn't bring a lot of things. However we did program a workspace persistence feature, whcich is really cool. Here's a list of everything that changed: * Workspace state is persisted across program runs. Every drawing open the last time you worked will be reopen once you run Archimedes again. * Auto save: open drawing are automatically saved from time to time, and also in case of program crash. See the Workspace Preferences dialog (Edit menu) for options on time interval for the auto save, and other things. * The number of selected elements is informed on the interpreter box whenever a selection happens. Just so you how many elements you're just about to erase... * Normalization of ESC/Enter behaviour. They both now end comands, and don't undo them. See line and polyline creation commands for an example of this. * Rectangle and arc creation ignore the status of the orto button. (When the orto was on, it was impossible to make a proper rectangle). * Work has progressed on extend and text edition, though both are yet unavailable. * Copying and pasting between drawings is now referred to as copying and pasting from and to the clipboard. Hello, people. We have a double release this weekend. First, stable version 0.14.1 with updated and revised user manuals. This version also corrects two bugs in the previous 0.14.0 (cancelling infinite line and editing the visible/locked layer properties). So we recommend updating =) And secondly, the unstable 0.15.0. The changes made during this week are: * It's possible to use space when creating texts. In previous versions, space was used as enter, and texts could only be single words. * Circle has new snapping points, at angles 0, 90, 180 and 270 of the circumference. * The interpreter constantly informs the current command. * When copying elements from one drawing to another, the layers are also copied. As a consequence, two layers can't have the same name. It works like this: if a layer with the same name exists in the drawing the elements are being pasted, it is put in that layer. Otherwise, the layer is copied. * The perpendicular snap point has been changed. * First bug correction: refresh of the drawing when changes are made. * Second bug correction: fillet with closed polylines no longer erases the polyline. Also, for interested developers, in this version we've refactored the IputController (former Interpreter) to use the State pattern. It isn't done yet, but transitions have become a little more clear. Hello, eveybody. The Mail Delivety System failed on me, and though I sent this message last week, it didn't arrive. So maybe you've seen the new Archimedes already. Still I'm trying to send the message again. Hope it works this time. Follows the original message in full text: So here is Archimedes 0.14.0 ! It has some features more that 0.13.2, but I'll give an overview of everything included since 0.12.*, just to remind you =) So first from release 0.13.2, we have: ** Quite a few additions to the tool bar. It's really cool now, although the buttons are not disabled when a command is active. But it all works fine. ** The command "area" calculates the area and perimeter of a region defined by points. ** The Stretch command and shortcut. So now it's possible to move just some points of the elements, changing their shape. Try it out =) ** During a trim command, it is now possible to select the elements to be cut by fencing, that is, with regular selection. So trimming becomes a lot faster. Since 0.12.0, even more things have changed: * A few shortcuts (which I'm not sure were ever mentioned): Ctrl+Z for undo, Ctrl+Y for redo, Del for erase. Also any number 0.5 may be typed as just .5 * Text creation works with size. * The commands Rotate and Scale are now available. * The poliline offset is now fully operational, and hopefully we won't be seeing it again for quite some time. * Some commands have become multis (meaning they don't ever really end): line, fillet, copy-paste. * For every multi command, plus polyline and area, it is possible to undo the last previous step. (See related trim bug below). As for bugs, a few of them were fixed: * Exporting jpg and bmp images now works. * The zoom by mouse wheel was completely corrected. * We fixed a bug on the file reader, which wasn't wotking for some cases. * We fixed a bug in the trim command, which was with quite an erratic behaviour. Hi, folks. A few notes on this release: * Text creation now asks for the size of the text, as promised. * A bug in the trim command was solved. It was quite problematic before, the undo was wrong, and you couldn't really do trim a second time. It just didn't work. Well, it's fixed now, so don't worry about it. * On the other hand, we found a bit of a problem with undoing a rotation, but we expect to have ir fixed for 0.14.0. Anyway, it seems quite less serious than with the trim bug, because it only happens after the third rotation and only if you undo all of them up to the creation of the rotated elements. * A really neat new feature is the multi-commands. Well, they are not new commands. They're the old commands, but they don't end. So after creating a line, instead of just being done with it, you may create a line immediately after, that starts at the point the previous one ended. Copy-paste (co) has also turned multi, it lets you paste many times. And finally with fillet, it is simpler. It just keeps asking for the lines to be "filleted". Hello, everybody. A new unstable for Archimedes has just been released, version 0.13.1. It comes with a couple new funcionalities: rotate and scale. They have not yet been fully tested, but should work satisfyingly. Test away, and do send us feedback about them. Related to that, I should say that although the text may be scaled, it isn't yet created with a given size. Look for that in the next unstable release, at the end of the week. Other than that, the offset of polylines has recieved some aditional work, though it still needs improvement. Particularly annoying is the fact that the reference point is considered only relative to the first segment, and not to "inside" and "outside" the polyline. But don't worry, we're working on it. Finally, on the programmer's point of view, we improved some tests and started refactoring the element interface, to make it more flexible and reusable. For now, that's it. Enjoy the new release!
