Sure that's not a problem. The licence is compatiable with the GPL, but is
less restrictive. It's released under the modified X11 licence.

Yes, I believe you're right. My recollection of this is somewhat hazy, but
my understanding is that even with the -mpic -msingle-pic-base options the
GOT table still gets used to deal with statics function pointers.
