Respawning will allow for continuous gameplay and
direct access to the grid when entering rather than
having to wait for rounds to end.
I envision it like this:
- a player logs on and his client creates the grid as
- the server assigns him a totally random starting
position and direction
- the player can cross through any trail for the first
## milliseconds (## customizeable by server admin) so
that he can not be instantly trapped
- when the player is killed there can be a ##ms time
before respawning takes place at a new random location
I think this could be a great addition to the game both
on the kinds of servers we have today as well as
possible future kinds of servers as mentioned in the "[
1116565 ] Tricks, Laps and Maze server modifications"
Also i think i saw somewhere mentioned that the game
was at some point intended to have totally random
starting positions for the players and this would be a
solution that would enable such as the same code used
for respawning could be used for the ##ms of a start of
a normal "round and match" defined game even without
What about rounds and matches with respawning?
- rounds would disappear at least in the form they take
now because they are presently defined by having 1 survivor
- matches would survive as they are defined by points
- however matches could be removed as well if the
server admin wants to and one could have neverending
games (i.e starting for you when you log on and ending
when you log off). such endless matches would not stop
gameplay at any point and ladders etc. would probably
have to be based on who killed who how many times etc.
(which makes for an interesting variation on
Some additional benefits for those Tricks, Laps, and
Maze servers are mentioned in that feature request.
