switching to Python 2

Jonathan, near the end of a thread with a muddle about
Python and PyXML:

I propose that, from 1st January 2003, we require Python 2
for ARK, and try *very hard* to get by with nothing but the
builtin 'minidom'.

OK, it may be a pain to have to have Python 2, but all the
PyXML problems just vanish.  [And why would anyone *not*
want Python 2 (which came out on Oct 16, 2000)?]

Anyone want to argue?
