Now I am ready to start installing packages. I notice that sidai/ALL.xml defines a process dependent on Arusha-installed versions of gzip, tar, gcc, and md5sum (from textutils). I had better install those first. Let's see ... gcc needs texinfo, texinfo needs tar, tar needs gcc. Uh oh! Only a handful of Sidai packages rely on preArusha-installed software (designated, for example, GNU-MAKE-BOOT): binutils, gcc, gzip, texinfo, and textutils. In addition to the documented prerequisite software gcc, Perl, and Python (with PyXml), they require GNU make and md5sum. They expect Arusha-installed tar and gzip. My next three steps are: 1. Install additional prerequisite software: gzip, GNU make, GNU tar, and md5sum. 2. Identify a core set of initial packages. 3. Modify those packages to make explicit their interdependencies and to use preinstalled software where needed. -- Joel Shprentz National Imagery and Mapping Agency Mailstop N-17 Washington Navy Yard, Building 213 1200 First Street, SE Washington, DC 20303-0001 202-685-3534 |
