This probably seems ridiculous, but for the life of me, I can't figure
out how to add my music collection to Ario. I've been through
Preferences and all of the menu items multiple times, but I just can't
figure it out.

it not ridiculous, it just sounds like you grabbed the wrong type of software.
Aria is not a pusic player in the traditional sense. its a MPD client. you need a seperate mpd server/daemon on the same computer or on another computer to use it.
heres some options.
some some of the bigger ones on the raspberry pi are: volumio, Rune Audio, (i use rune audio)
ther is a reletively new one called moOde audio as well.
another option is running a MPD server on your compouter then using 127.0.0.1 as the host in aria too, as that is a option. but aria does not come with a MPD daemon. there are companies out there that do make a standalone MPD server but i havnt used one.
aria is like your TV remote. the remote is just a way to contol the TV.
