Hello everyone, my name is Vincent Guidry and I have been following the list
for quite some time, in between playing Morrowind. Let me share my thoughts
on a possible spell system.
Link the spell system with fatigue and hit points. Have every spell cast
drain a number of fatigue and/or hit points. Some spells might cost only
fatigue, only hit points, or a combination of the two. If a player is almost
out of hit points, allow him to cast the spell, but it would have a chance of
killing him, and if he gets the spell off, only reduce the hit points to 1.
Fatigue would work the same way, only characters which are exhausted only
risk falling unconscious, which might kill the character anyway, if he was
fighting something particularly nasty. Im not sure how well falling
unconsious would work in a real-time game, however, the downtime might cause
players to simply log off instead of waiting around to wake up. Or perhaps
forgo falling unconscious and simply kill off any character which exceeds
either one of his limits and fails his 'roll'
Morrowind has an excellent spell system, its only problem is the lack of any
real diversity in spell effects. Perhaps Arianne could use a similar system,
only introduce a vast array of combinable spell effects.
